I am happy to learn that World Bamboo Day is being celebrated along with the North East International Bamboo Festival from 16th to 18th September 2010 at Kohima, Nagaland. I convey my appreciation to the organizers for selecting "Bamboo for Livelihood and Community Development" as the theme of the festival. North East India has abundant bamboo resource. 65% of bamboo in the country and 20% of the world are grown in the region. Bamboo therefore has a big potential for generating revenue and employment for North East India. I am confident that celebration of World Bamboo Day and the North East International Bamboo Festival will create greater awareness on the rich dividend that could be accrued from developing
bamboo.
