NEC laid a new milestone for the North Eastern Region on 23 June 2009 at Burnihat
The much awaited CANE AND BAMBOO TECHNOLOGY PARK, a project of the North Eastern Council has been inaugurated by the Union Minister of Mines and DoNER Shri B.K.Handique on 23rd June, 2009 at Burnihat, Assam, in the presence of the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Shri DD Lapang, the Agriculture Minister of Mizoram Shri Lian Sailo, Shri PP Shrivastava Member NEC, Shri P.L.Thanga former Secretary NEC, Shri U.K.Sangma I.A.S, Secretary NEC and several high ranking officials of the NEC, DoNER, Official State representatives, Bamboo Entrepreneurs and officials of the Cane and Bamboo Technology Centre (CBTC).
The Ministry of Environment and Forest, Govt. of India has allotted a plot of land measuring about 2 hectares within the campus of the State Forest Service College (SFSC), Burnihat, to the North Eastern Council for setting up of a Cane and Bamboo Technology Park (CBTP). Being the promoter of the facility, the NEC is setting up the Cane & Bamboo Technology Park with an estimated investment of Rs. 418.23 lakhs.
The Cane and Bamboo Technology Centre (CBTC) has been entrusted to develop, implement and manage the technology park. The construction for this Technology Park will be contracted to a construction company of national repute to meet the required standards.
