The DRAD Morigaon Approached to CBTC to conduct two weeks residential training programme on Cane & Bamboo Processing and Production for some SHG members promoted by this Department at Morigaon District of Assam. After receiving the proposal, CBTC forwarded a tentative budget to DRDA Morigaon which was agreed by the Project Director, DRDA, Morigaon.
The training programme started on 27th March’2007 which continued till 10th April’2007. Altogether 10 persons from different SHG of Morigaon district attended this training programme. The different aspects covered under this training programme were:
i) Bamboo, its utilization in Handicraft & Industrial sector
ii) Tools & Machineries for working with bamboo and Cane
iii) Bamboo & Cane treatment process
iv) Dying process
v) Weaving pattern
vi) Finishing touch of bamboo product
Moreover, during this training programme, the trainees were taken for an exposure visit to differential bamboo based industrial units located in an around the Guwahati City. The participants were given hands on training on making of different handicraft items, furniture making, treatment procedure of bamboo, dying & painting, finishing touch, primary processing of bamboo using different hand operated and portable power operated machines.
The trainees were highly satisfied with this training programme which helped them in up scaling their knowledge and skills and developing their own vision. Moreover, exposure with various tools and machineries make them more confident to take up bamboo based activity in a commercial scale within their SHGs. An action plan was developed on the last day of this training programme, where the trainees came out with their individual future plan of activities. Moreover, the officials present from DRDA in the last day of training programme assured to provide all kind of forward and backward linkages to these trainees to set up their own ventures especially arranging credit from Banks/FIs and subsidy from DRDA.
