
The Department of Posts, Govt of India has taken up the initiative of making Rural Post Offices with local technology in different parts of the Country. This was a noble initiative and the objective was to engage the local populace in the construction of such post offices. The Chief Post Master General of the region was keen to take up this and asked the CBTC to make a model Post office at Panitem near Guwahati with bamboo.
This project was sponsored by the Department of Post and designed and executed by the CBTC. The skilled workers of the agency worked with the active particicipation of the local people to create this structure. The structure was designed using Bamboo create walls with bamboo structure to create a large office space, store and verandas.
This construction programme generated a lot of awareness among the local population and helped in the dissemination of the Bamboo construction industry.
