Stating that the entire North Eastern region is endowed with abundant bamboo resource, Rio said, "It is time to act, so that the region will be able to retain its present advantage of having nearly two thirds of the bamboo resource and harness the great economic opportunities emerging in our country and in the world."
He assured that the State Government would provide policy intervention and support in terms of research and development besides acting as facilitator. The Chief Minister hoped that with the establishment of bamboo-based enterprises in a scientific manner, the principal beneficiaries would be people living in rural areas including farmers, artisans and craftsmen.
Rio believed that the present efforts of the State Government to redirect the use of bamboo in scientific, sustainable and integrated manner and utilising all technologies available would reap rich dividends for the people of the State.
